PCLF Launches Highly Anticipated
Sierra Nevada Grassroots Directory

(Sacramento, February 27, 2009) – The Planning and Conservation League Foundation’s long-awaited Sierra Nevada Grassroots Directory has arrived. Community groups, agencies and residents alike will benefit from this detailed directory of environmental grassroots organizations active in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

A “living document,” the Sierra Nevada Grassroots Directory is a resource aimed at the protection and preservation of this important mountain range. The Sierra Nevada Grassroots Directory is organized alphabetically by county and provides information about environmental non-profit organizations, government agencies, and bodies with administrative or policy-making duties in each region. The work is the culmination of a joint effort by Foundation staffers and grassroots organizations.

“The Grassroots Directory exemplifies what PCLF is all about: helping organizations strategize positive environmental action,” states Paul Gilligan, AmeriCorps staff member for PCLF. “With the Directory, we hope to provide community groups, businesses and the public in the 23-county Sierra Nevada mountain range with the tools necessary to champion large and small-scale environmental causes.”

Impressive conservation stories from each county are highlighted in the Directory and serve as shining examples of the environmental activism and commitment of the organizations in the Sierra Nevada.

Everyone is encouraged to make additions and amendments to the Directory via the PCL Foundation website: www.PCLFoundation.org. This Directory is constantly evolving and PCLF considers it a work in progress. PCLF Executive Director Traci Sheehan explains, “The involvement of the Sierra Nevada community in updating the Sierra Nevada Grassroots Directory is key to its success.”
