Planning and Conservation League Annual Symposium
“Steps to a Sustainable California: Building Momentum for Real Change”
The Planning and Conservation League Foundation and the Planning and Conservation League presents its 2009 Environmental Legislative Symposium on Saturday, February 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Grand, 1230 J Street, Sacramento, CA.
The Symposium features candid keynote presentations from California Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and State Senator Fran Pavley on today’s biggest news stories, including the state budget crisis, the federal economic recovery package, and responses to the deepening drought. The event also includes over 40 panelists and speakers on a wide variety of environmental policy issues facing the golden state. Highlights include:
- California Air Resources Board Chair Mary Nichols and Assemblymember Dave Jones will present on new policies to fight global warming through smarter development patterns.
- Chief Kate Dargan, CalFire, provides relevant information on wildland fires, land use and fire safe planning during a California Wildfire and CEQA session.
- Dr. Rajiv Bhatia, San Francisco Department of Public Health, focuses on innovative approaches to protecting at-risk individuals and creating healthier places.
- Jakada Imani, Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, discusses recent advances in the national Green-Collar Jobs Campaign.
Through policy briefings and “How To” workshops, the Symposium will provide participants with the tools they need to be effective environmental advocates at the grassroots, state, and national levels.
